Watching Movies During Lessons?

Hello to all, my chatterboxes!

This is the first entry and the topic for the fortnight is......

Watching movies during English lessons and completing English class/homework based on them is fun!

Do you agree? Or do you disagree?

Do write your thoughts in proper English (because I will be reading them and probably respond) and address them to your classmates. You are also allowed to respond to your classmates' comments in a civilised and polite manner. That means no name calling or hard feelings to one another.

We all must agree to disagree.

As all of you have experienced, Miss Ang never takes a simple 'yes' or 'no' when she asks a question. Likewise on this class blog, I expect you to support your arguments. Be it a four-liner paragraph or a four-paged essay.

I want your response.

Lastly, if your parents might ask you why is your (pretty) English teacher (ahem) requiring you to blog, please show them this post: -

Blogging is current the technology rage in Singapore (and worldwide) and it is essential for students to be IT-savvy in their work and research in order to be on par or ahead with our fast-paced society. Through class blogging, students are tasked to think coherently and analyse introduced topics before acquiring confidence (and supporting arguments/evidence) to share comments with the class. At the same time, they are given an opportunity to practise and hone their writing skills and grammar as their comments are moderated by the English teacher. Also, discussion of the posted topics in and outside the classroom encourages class cohesion through this form of online interaction.

I think its great to watch movies in class to relax and have fun but then doing the homework afterwards! Its great !

Hi Miss Ang...

Well.Watching movies during lessons is a yes and no to me.

I will explain why I said yes first. Some students can remember better by watching movies so its like giving them an advantage.

Now I explain why I said no. It is because some students hate movies, students may fall asleep or talk to each other during the movie.

Well. My comment is complete. See you in school then. ^_^

Ri-n said...

I disagree .

Some of the students might relax too much . There will be students who are not interested . Learning needs attention . Those pupils who are watching might not really pay attention , so when it's time to do work/assessments based on them , they might not do it well .

My comment ends here and mission is accomplished . See you in school, Miss Ang ! ^^

Hello Miss Ang,

I think watching movie is an advantage to us...

Some students may not understand the meaning of the words. After watching the movie, they could roughly imagine the meaning of the word.

Miss Ang wishes that u might show us more movies like MR BEAN?
Bye Bye! Meet u in school!!! o.0

Hi Miss Ang...

I think watching movie in class is great and i agree to the topic.
I think we can learn better like that. However the movie must be interesting and of our liking or else many people will take this time chattering and sleeping.
Maybe we can have some group work,
homework and classwork after the movie so we get to learn something after that.
I think thats all i have to say.

Yo! Miss Ang
To me watching movie during lesson is good.
Firstly,we can watch movies that we have not watch before.
Secondly, watching is easier to be understand than listening.
Lastly,of course we CAN ENJOY AND RELAX to watch the movie!

Basically, you should know how we students are like as you always says you were once a student.
You should know that we loves to be lazy and hate boring lessons.
Most students would prefer having movies around, of course, since, they would be able to laze around. They would love the time when the movie is playing but hate the time after, because then, they would have to do the assignments regarding to the movie, and they would dread it especially since they were not paying attention.

To me, having movies during class lessons might spice up the way we are always having the same O' lesson, and it'd be fun at the same time. Naturally, we would be able to learn new things.
I always believe in studying smart, not studying hard, i'm too lazy to be hardworking. ;)

But it might not be fun, to see students taking this opportunity to slack, eg. talking to classmates, or sleeping throughout the movie.
Different people might have different views, so, it might not always be good to have movies during lesson, but it does helps to make more students love english lessons and looking forward to it.

I always think that everything have a good and bad side to it.
It all depends on the students to how they will treat this lessons as, to relax and learn? Or to laze around and learn nothing?

See you in school!! =)
Looking forward to your lessons!!
I always enjoy your lesson though =) U are funny, ok =)
maybe i should add pretty too =) To make you feel happy maybe? =)

Take care...

Wow,these people do shriek fast....
Watching movies are a sweet and sure way to relax.
As Miss Ang's explaining may not
always be perfect, using the movie to relate to us what is happening would be the next best thing to do besides screaming her head off.

Wow....it seems that only Zul's
comment is most grammatically correct....See you in school then

I think is a yes , because we can relax yet learn from the movie .
And it won't be so boring.Plus,we can learn new words from the movie. Its better then reading from textbooks.

Anonymous said...

Woah, cool down and relax Yi Yin.
You AND Zul's comments are grammartically correct......happy?

Addressing the issue of slacking/sleeping in class,we should follow madam Kavita's way by leaving only the front lights off and back lights on so as to let the
teacher know who is naughty and who's...well,good.

That's all folks!

My comment ends here.See everyone in school.

Hi..Miss Ang

Watching movie during lesson is yes and no to me.
For "yes" I think it can be relaxing after the stress and some subjects is too stress for them also.

For "no" I think if relax too much we will cannot study and some students don't like to watch movies and it make the lesson become more boring than don't watch movie during the lesson

Amabelle said...

Hi Ms Ang !

I agree that watching movie is an advantage for us .

Some students have good memories at remembering those pictures which appear in the movies , so they can use it to do the homework without any problems . We can also do some group discussions about the movie , so we can know how much we have learn from the movie .

Jia Lee said...

YO PEOPLE!!

LOL!
I think the answer can be a yes or a no.. It all depends on the student's interest in what kind of movies and the movie is best not to be too boring..

Some student cannot stand boring movie but they like funny ones like Mr Bean and other things that are funny..

It's really a fabulous idea to suggest movies and it can be applied for some students and there is a tendency in which that the number of people sleeping in your class will be less..

It really depends on what kind of movie we are watching.. So it cant be a yes or a no..

Thats what i think.. Anyway, got to end here.. ^-^ TeeHeeHee..

hello Miss Ang !!

im not 100% agree of watching movie in the class. As every people like different kinds of movie ( horror, humour etc ),some students might feel bored and start to be sleepy and soon fall asleep and some students who are interested of the story will watch it with full attention.
for the students with a poor english, the might can learn roughly from watching the movie.
Watching movie is a relaxation. i think if we want to watch movie during the lesson,it would be better if it is after the exam, because after exam,we have got to relax our mind.
i think this would be the end of my comment.

take care and see you in school,Miss Ang !

Hey Miss Ang...

i think that whating movie n class is a great idea but of cause good movies that dosen'y have broken englst nor slangs...at the same time watchng movies-not boring movies enable us to be refreshed at the same time not feeling tired and want to know more more about the movie...It is far better than readng a story because people always had a mindset that read that

sebastian=) said...

-cont- they had all they time in the world to read the book when they do not have.but watching move allows us to stay focused as mojority of the people would not have watched the movie before and therfore i suggest that after watching a movie,we should be gvin a assignment based on the movie so that that will allow you to know f we are attentive and at the same time to learn good english........haha finally finshed.

Anonymous said...

I think watching english movies in class is good because we can understand english better.

MJ said...

I think that watching a movie during lesson is both good and bad.

It is good because this way we can relax a little and Ms Ang can set some questions based on the story to see if we were paying attention while the movie is being shown.

It is also bad because as students, we tend to talk if the movie was boring and create noise that might disrupt the others who are watching the movie.

Yes, we can use movies for Literature as well. Literature and English are related. Since I teach your class both subjects, we can do many things together which will altogether improve grades!

Ah,the delightful Fithrilicious has

Watching movies for all the lessons
sounds like a very good idea....but
making us too relaxed may effect the
overall study moral of this class.

The combination of movies and boring
books and explanation by the teachers tend to us in check and in balance of "THE SCALE"...

By the my white hair is caused by
some unhealthy in the blood or by
the stress I get in school and house.

Hello people..
Hello Miss Ang..
Jolie here..

Regarding the issue about watching movies during lesson time, personally i think its a splendid idea as i think it could help us understand and learn english better. It has a better advantage for us to learn better and think that english its a interesting subject.

As lots of students think that its a 'yes' and a 'no', i think that its quite true as different students have different way of learning but seriously this is a better way to let students who are poor in english or not interested in english, have a better concept about this subject.

Although this is a good way of learning which could help us in many ways(e.g: writing better book or movie reviews), but i'm afraid that many students will take this advantage to talk when the movie is playing. But after ll i still think its a great advantage to us in learning.

I hope that u peeps can understand what am i talking about.. haha..

Bye! Thank You!
lookin forward to watch movie in clas.. wahaha...

signing off,
*zhuzhu*(^00^)

One more thing,
it would be some kind of shocking if Miss Ang let us watch the movie about the story about the gay thingy..(lit. text)

i will definetly have goosebumps if i saw that movie.. Eww..

but maybe it'll let us have a better picture what the text is about if its a long, winding and borin story.. hmm.. i think so..

bye peeps!!

To Pretty (AHEM!!..cough,cough)Miss Ang:Jolie's kinda right....
The clock's got a little functioning problem. And showing the deleted posts only wastes space and time needed to scroll down to avoid it.

To Faithful San:Not much of a problem with cept you only posted one,so post more man!

To Role Model Zul:Good point there...
But I don't think there is such a person in 2e1 that hates MOVIES.

And being a student, talking a bit shows that there's some life in them yet.Being a "GOOD student",I would Miss Ang would allow interaction as long it is about the movie.

As for sleeping students, there's a bucket of cold water in my bag,Miss Ang's beautiful vocals and ten alarm clocks provided by madam Tan CK....By the way, post more!

To Lovely Weilin:Learning indeed requires attention...but it's up to Miss Ang to find sweet movies that radiates brightly enough to blind attention.Thank you for being the first one to mention it.

But the mission is never ever fully accomplished so keep the good work up!

To Pretty Elena:Coping part Zul's line isn't very original....

But however,you're right.
Some of the words may be too "Chim-alogy" to understand. But Miss Ang is a walking book of every hard word we might encounter so you may us her about any "chim" word in you do not know.

To the knowledgeable Hui Xuan:Your
words are indeed wise and came straight to point.A little groupwork here,a little homework there outta do the trick.Since you're smart enough, that's all I have for you now.

To ever-active Aileen:What you say is soo right yet sooo missing in correct grammar...good try though.

To Ravishing Yi Yin:It's love to be lazy and hate boring lessons.

"Dread it especially since they were not paying attention."....good summary of the vision I'm receving
ever time I turn my head.

You post of surprising English.
I am indeed unfit to judge.

That's all for now folks!

To Jose: No, the movie is not for time-filling purposes. I'm usually over-running the lesson time and we actually don't have any 'extra' time, yeah? The movies will be for English work purposes.

To Kelvin: Movies won't be a solution to ensure that you pay attention in class if your heart's not there in the first place. Do not depend on others to make you feel happy or desire to learn; rather, you are your own man.

I think it would be great if we are learning through movies as we may get bored by just listening 2 teachers explaining or teaching...hehe...No offense right Miss Ang???As i said that learning through movies are great cause most of the time movies can teach us some moral in life and it can also allow us to listen in class more attentively...So if we can really learn through movie during lesson time i would be glad to look forward to the lessons more...But one thing thats bad watching movies during lesson time is that some people in class will be talking instead of watching and they will most likely forget about what happened earlier in the movie...okay...i need 2 go le if i got the time i will drop by and leave some comments!!!
